We sometimes have a hard time getting our little one to drink enough water, so when it’s really warm outside, simple smoothies like this one help her stay hydrated. This quick drink is made with just two ingredients—watermelon and plain yogurt—but it packs vitamins, protein, and a nice dose of water content to help active toddlers feel their best on warm days.
If your watermelon is sweet and flavorful, you don’t need to add any additional sweetener. But if it’s a little lackluster, go ahead and add a drizzle of honey and maybe even a dash of pure vanilla extract to boost the flavor a bit. A little banana would be a nice addition if you want to make it a bit thicker, and you could even freeze this mixture into popsicle molds for a frozen treat. But no matter how you make this, the high water content of watermelon will ensure that your toddler stays properly hydrated, even if they don’t love drinking plain water.
You can use your favorite nondairy yogurt if you prefer.
Makes 1 cup
- 3/4 cup fresh cubed watermelon
- 1/4 cup plain whole milk yogurt (Greek or regular)
- Blend the watermelon and yogurt until creamy and smooth in a blender. Serve immediately with a straw or in a sippy cup.
