When I was growing up, pastina was the food that my mom made when we weren’t feeling well. It’s always been an incredibly comforting food and I love that Miss Linden has picked up on that tradition—though it’s more of a go-to quick lunch or dinner in our house, and she always requests peas with hers. I sometimes find myself making really elaborate, multi-step meals for our family and then realizing that simple is usually a safer bet. This, and grilled cheese or cheese quesadillas, is what I make when we’re short on time.
Star Pasta and Peas
Makes 1 toddler-size serving
1/4 cup star pasta
1/4 cup peas
Parmesan cheese, optional
1. Bring a small pot of water to a boil. Add a bit of salt. Cook pasta as directed on the package or until soft. Add in peas; let sit for a minute. Drain.
2. Stir in a bit of butter and serve with a sprinkle of cheese if desired.
Make more to feed the whole family!
Stir in leftover diced chicken, ham, or sausage.
Add marinara sauce.
