Favorite Carrot Baby Food

Turn fresh carrots into a simple, nourishing Carrot Baby Food with this easy method—no special baby food makers required.

Step 1.

Set a medium pot fitted with a steamer insert or basket over medium high heat. Add about 2 inches of water and bring to a simmer. Turn down to medium heat, add the carrots and cover.

Step 2.

Cook for about 20 minutes, or until very soft when poked with a knife. Remove lid and cool slightly.

Step 3.

Add carrots to a blender. Add ¼ cup of your chosen liquid and blend, adding more liquid as needed to make a thin or thicker puree.

Step 4.

Add optional spice and oil, then serve and/or store. To serve this baby-led weaning style, put a little puree on a spoon, then hand it to baby to feel themselves.

Step 5.

To store, place into containers and store in the fridge for up to 5 days. Or portion into an ice cube tray and freeze overnight. Transfer to a freezer bag and seal, freeze for up to 6 months.

P.S. The carrot puree will taste as good as the carrots you start with, so taste them to make sure they taste sweet before you start cooking.
