Creating and continuing family traditions with little kids can add meaning to our routines, whether on normal days or on special holidays. We talked to cookbook author Leah Koenig for her best tips on how to nurture food and family traditions no matter your religion or cultural background.

Meet Leah Koenig

This week we’re talking to Leah Koenig, a writer and cookbook author who recently released The Jewish Cookbook . She’s written for the NYTimes, Grub Street, Serious Eats, Food52, The Wall Street Journal, Saveur, and many more. And she’s also a mama to two adorable kids. We wanted to have her on to share her take on food rituals and traditions, and to share some of her favorite go-to family dinners.

Food Traditions

Leah shared a little about how shabbat meals in her house, how to start food traditions that aren’t necessarily attached to religion, and tips for blending traditions in families with more than one cultural identity. We also talked about Isreali Couscous, latkes and applesauce, Applesauce Muffins, jelly donuts, and more.

On Keeping a Kosher Kitchen

And she shared her approach to talking through what it means to keep a kosher kitchen with her son, especially when it means that they eat different foods than friends.Leah shared that she gets her meat from the kosher, sustainable meat company Grow & Behold, and that her favorite way to start the day is with Chamelon Cold Brew and Rice Dream Horchata.
