With just 2 base ingredients and a method that takes minutes, this Blueberry Milk is one of the yummiest drinks for kids. Plus, it’s high in fiber and protein, too!

I used flavored milks with my kids when they were toddlers and they didn’t love plain milk. And while no toddler must drink milk, I wanted it in the mix as an easy and filling food option—both as protein for kids and calcium for kids—so flavoring the milk was super useful.

Ingredients You Need
Here is a look at the ingredients you need to make this Blueberry Milk so you know what to have on hand.

- Milk: You can use any kind of milk in this recipe you like. I keep whole milk in my house so that’s what I use, but it would work with a lower-fat milk or a plant-based milk including oat milk, almond milk, and soy milk. (Know it’s better with a thicker, creamier milk, so almond milk is fairly low on my list of preferred options here!)
- Blueberries: This works best with frozen wild blueberries because they have a bright purple color and they don’t cause the milk to separate as quickly as regular blueberries do.
- Vanilla extract, maple syrup: These are optional for additional flavor.

Step 1. Add the ingredients to the blender.

Step 2. Blend very smooth. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
TIP: This is best served immediately as it can separate a little as it sits.
Blueberry Milk FAQs
This is best made and served right away. Blueberries have a tendency to separate in smoothies and blended drinks and since there is nothing else in this recipe to help bind the mixture, it separates quickly. If that happens, simply stir or shake it up.
The strawberry version works best with freeze-dried strawberries. The blueberries are harder to get ground up super finely, so I don’t recommend it. Frozen wild blueberries are best here. Look for them in the freezer section of the supermarket.
Sure, you can add a spoonful of yogurt, or add some frozen mango or banana with the blueberries to make it more smoothie-like.

Notes
- This is best served right after making. It usually thickens and separates if it sits, but if you have some leftover, store it in an airtight container then shake to serve. Try to serve leftovers within 24 hours.
- Dairy-free: Use your favorite nondairy milk. Omit the sweetener and vanilla if using anything other than plain unsweetened milk.
- Added-sugar-free: Make this without added sugars by just using the milk and banana. (It will taste best with a very ripe banana!)
- Do half milk and half yogurt to make drinkable banana yogurt.
- Add ice to make it more of a smoothie consistency.
