It’s great plain or with fruit like fresh raspberries and is delicious chilled. And yes, it has healthy fats from the avocado, but we love it mostly because it’s fast and yummy.

Why this Recipe Works

The avocado adds richness and a super creamy texture to this Chocolate Avocado Pudding—and combined with cocoa powder and a little sweetener, it’s a no-cook pudding that’s incredibly easy to blend up. (And is nutritious for the kids!)

You can also freeze it into Fudge Pops or just freeze the mixture into little bites by adding it to an ice cube tray or silicone mold.

Ingredients You Need

Here’s what you need to make this Chocolate Avocado Pudding. that tastes the best.

ingredients in avocado pudding on counter.
  • Ripe avocado: Ripe avocado will make the creamiest pudding. You can also use frozen avocado, just let it thaw mostly first so that it blends easily in the blender.
  • Plain whole milk Greek yogurt: This type of yogurt helps to ensure that the pudding is super creamy. You can use a Greek-style nondairy yogurt if needed, too, to make this dairy-free. Or coconut cream or full-fat coconut milk. (I wouldn’t use nondairy milk like almond milk or oat milk in place of the yogurt as it won’t be as creamy.)
  • Cocoa powder: I use unsweetened cocoa powder to add chocolate flavor and typically buy Hershey’s Special Dark. Honestly, you can use any that you like the flavor of—the recipe is fairly flexible (though some cocoa powders are more bitter than others). You can also use cacao powder.
  • Maple syrup: I like to add a little maple syrup to balance out the flavor of the avocado and the cocoa powder. If you want to make this without any added sugars, you can use ½ of a very ripe banana instead.
  • Pure vanilla extract: Adding vanilla extract helps to ensure that the mixture tastes like pudding.
  • Optional: You can also add a ripe banana, more maple syrup, and/or a little powdered sugar if needed for a sweeter flavor.

TIP: You can use honey if you prefer, but always avoid honey for babies under 1. Agave also works.

  • Start with a small portion since it’s rich and the kids may not want a ton (or maybe they will, but if you start with a smaller portion, you may get some too!)

Love this recipe so, so much! My 4 kids (6, 4, 2, and 1.5) lick their bowls clean every time! We make it almost weekly at this point, usually a double recipe to freeze half in popsicle molds. I typically use Greek yogurt, but swapped it for cottage cheese most recently because I was out of yogurt. The texture was unbelievably creamy. Thank you so much for your recipes!!!

  2. For someone who doesn’t much like cooking this was ideal for me. I had all the ingredients and it turned out really well.

  3. It looks like there is an error in your recipe in that when the number of avocados increases the recipe still says the amount is 1/2 a cup.

    1. Yes, sorry about that. That field in parenthesis doesn’t automatically change unfortunately but it will be twice that.

  4. As others have mentioned, adding a banana takes this to a whole new level. Esp for kids that have a more discerning palate and can detect the avocado.

Very yummy, I also put a banana as recommended. My kids loved it! They had no idea they were eating avocado!

  6. This didn’t work for our family. My kids didn’t like it and I even added an extra Tbsp of syrup and 4 Tbsp of powdered sugar (plus some milk because it was too thick) and sprnkles! I personally loved how creamy it was and didn’t mind it but it is a very different flavor than boxed pudding. I will finish it off myself. I may try banana for sweetness next time too.

  7. How long can this store? Made on Easter
Trying to see if still good and/or freeze for frozen treats

Btw, I poured the extra pudding into the small popsicle moulds you recommended and I completely forgot about them … I just took one out and OMG! They are phenomenal! I can even say that they taste better frozen! I never crave ice cream but this is something I’ll be looking forward to having again and again , so creamy and delish xx

SO GOOD! It’s the most delicious thing ever! I added it on top of your sheet pancakes and they tastes like Nutella pancakes minus the headaches! Thank you so much xx

Never thought this would work, but it’s a 10/10. My 4 and 1 year olds gobbled it up AND my husband. I very rarely get 3 for 3! Agree with others that a banana would be good. Next time I’ll double the recipe to make popsicles.

I made this and it was unfortunately too bitter! So… I added banana and it help tremendously! 🙂

If anyone else thinks it is too bitter trust me the BANANA helped 💗
