Ingredients You Need

Here’s a look at the ingredients you need to make these Banana Bites so you know what to have on hand.

Ingredients for banana bites on countertop.
  • Ripe banana: Use ripe bananas with some brown spots for the best flavor and sweetness here. (Do not use overripe bananas, or ones that are totally brown, as they will be too mushy to dip into the chocolate.)
  • Dark chocolate chips: These work well to melt to coat the banana slices. You can also use semi-sweet chocolate chips or nondairy ones as needed.
  • Peanut butter: This adds flavor and beneficial fats and protein to the chocolate mixture. You can also use almond butter or a nut-free seed butter.
  • Sprinkles, optional for a little extra fun.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I do this with another fruit?

Sure, you can try raspberries, sliced strawberries, or blueberries. Freeze just to set the chocolate and not to freeze the fruit solid.

How can I make this easier for my toddler to chew?

An alternative method is to add the banana slices to a parchment-lined tray, press flat with the bottom of a cup, then dollop a little chocolate on top. Freeze for 10 minutes then serve. These are flatter and may be easier for your toddler.

What kind of peanut butter works?

You can use natural peanut butter or really any kind you prefer.

How to Store

Store any leftover Banana Bites in the freezer in a sealed freezer bag for best results.

Best Tips for Success

  • Use yogurt in place of the chocolate for a lower-added-sugar option.
  • Or dip in my Strawberry Yogurt, Peanut Butter Yogurt, or Cheesecake Dip.
  • Skip the nut butter and just use chocolate if desired.
  • Try sprinkling with minced peanuts and coarse salt for a Snickers-like flavor.

Ingredients

  • 2 bananas (sliced)
  • ¼ cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon peanut butter (or another nut or seed butter)
  • Sprinkles, if desired

Instructions

  • Line a small baking tray or plate with parchment paper. Set aside.
  • Slice the bananas into rounds.
  • Add the chocolate chips and nut butter into a heat-safe bowl. Microwave for 60 seconds, then stir to make a smooth mixture.
  • Use your hands to dip 1 side of each banana slice into the chocolate, then place gently onto the parchment paper. Or, use a fork to coat each slice entirely and place gently on the paper. Top with sprinkles if using.
  • Pop the tray into the freezer for about 10 minutes to set the chocolate. Serve.

Notes

  • Store any leftover Banana Bites in a freezer bag in the freezer. This prevents the banana from browning. They are best eaten within a few days.
  • Use yogurt in place of the chocolate for a lower-added-sugar option.
  • Skip the nut butter and just use chocolate if desired.
  • Try sprinkling with minced peanuts and coarse salt for a Snickers-like flavor.
