Happy holidays friends! I have one last reader question to answer before a holiday break—and it’s a good one.

“How do I handle nap time and Christmas dinner happening at the same time? We have three holiday dinners to go to and they are all at 1pm—but my 2 year old goes down for their nap at that time. Our plan is just to be late for each one, which means we miss family time and we’ll wind up with cold food to eat…which also means my toddler is likely to not eat anything. Advice?” —Marisa

I also had a similar question from a reader about what to do when your kid’s bedtime is before an 8pm Christmas dinner. And what to do when a relative pushes a toddler to try more holiday foods the kid doesn’t want.

I know many adults will say “it’s just one day!”—but that seriously minimizes the impact to the kid…and to the mom, who is likely the one managing the kiddo. So here is my take, which I admit, I can only now share with confidence after 13 years of motherhood and having lived these exact scenarios many times.
