Travel Cribs

Traveling with kids is always an adventure, and sleep tends to be a wildcard. But for me, after more than a decade as a parent, I know that the more expected and reliable the sleeping environment is for the kids, the better everyone will sleep.

This is why we tested the most popular travel cribs and travel cots so you can trust the one you choose will work well for your child and last as long as you need it.

Below you’ll find portable cribs with easy storage bags, travel cribs that are comfortable on baby’s skin (or toddler’s skin), portable toddler beds, and more.

Note: Always be sure to follow safe sleep guidelines for toddlers whether at home or on the go.

Slumberpod toddler travel bed.

Slumberpod Portable Sleep Pod

SlumberPod is the first portable, private sleep nook that allows babies and younger toddlers to sleep in a safe space—in the dark. You can put their travel crib or toddler mattress inside and zip them in to block out the light.

That means you can sleep in the same hotel room and not have to sit in the dark when it’s the kids’ bedtime—so handy! This is also a great option if you’re traveling in the summer or anywhere the days are longer or you can’t darken the room with blackout shades.

Chicco Alfa Lite

Simplify on-the-go sleep with the Alfa Lite Lightweight Travel Playard. Weighing only 13 pounds, it’s easy to carry in a zipper storage bag. It can be used for children up to 30 pounds, so the lifespan of the product may depend on the size of your child.

Graco pack n play.

Graco Pack ‘n Play

Keep your toddler happy and comfortable no matter where you go with the classic travel crib known as the Pack ‘n Play. Folding feet and wheels allow for a compact fold, while the durable frame makes it perfectly suited for traveling by car.

The signature push-button fold allows you to break it down quickly, and this works for babies and toddlers—usually to around age 3 depending on the height and weight of the child. (Most are recommended up to 30-35 pounds.)

This is the most affordable option at less than $80.

(Some models come with a bassinet for newborns, too.)

Locus toddler travel bed.

Guava Lotus

This is a great option for toddlers up to age 3, whether you’re driving or flying to your destination. The Lotus Travel Crib has a compact, foldable design  (classic to the Guava Family of products) and airport-friendly backpack.

Since the mattress is on the floor of this play yard, it can handle more weight, and the manufacturer recommends it for up to age 3.

Inflatable toddler travel bed.

Hiccapop Toddler Travel Bed

Home, Grandma’s, camping, or vacation, this portable toddler bed inflates quickly for a comfy sleeping spot for older toddlers. The inflatable toddler bed is lightweight, portable, and guaranteed for life. It comes with a travel bag and an electric pump to make set-up quick and easy.

This is usually priced at under $85 and can hold over 300 pounds (which is clearly more than you need for a toddler but shows that it’s a great option once a child has outgrown the other types of toddler beds).

It’s priced around $55 and can be used for years and with multiple kids. This option gets high marks for portability.

Best Tips for Toddler Travel Cots

  • Check the weight and height limits, as well as the dimensions to ensure it will be a good fit for your child. (In this post, options for older/larger toddlers are toward the end.)
  • Look for one with a travel bag, carry bag, or backpack if you plan to fly with it.
  • Add the SlumperPod to darken the room, especially if you plan to share the room with the rest of the family.
  • Consider safe bumpers or railings to easily modify a twin bed.
  • Add a safe waterproof mattress pad or cover to add extra protection to the travel cots, too.
