Welcome to YTF Community, a place to safely share in the challenges and joys of feeding our families. And make all of it easier!

Welcome to the recurring series where I share a look at what I actually served for dinner during a random week. My goal is to be more casual than I am in my videos on social media as another way to share the reality of feeding kids.

I know that things online can often look perfect (and frankly, unattainable), so this is meant to give you ideas for easy weeknight family dinners and serve as a reminder that however your real life looks is perfectly great.

Did each kid love every meal? No, I am certainly not a wizard! But in each case, we all had enough to eat and I didn’t resent the work that went into the meal. A good outcome if there ever was one. (Read more about How to Actually Make Dinner Easier, too.)

  1. I made the pizza beans tonight, and my extremely picky 9 year old said it was absolutely delicious!! My 5 year old really just ate the garlic bread I served with it , but that’s totally ok as he had his share of good food earlier in the day. I’m so happy to have found something so ridiculously easy to make that almost everyone in the family loves! YTF Community is awesome! Thank you for all the work you put into this website and for making it affordable!

  2. Please tell me more about how your kids do having access to dessert along with dinner!
My kids are 4 and 2 and extremely selective. It’s a point of contention in the house about whether or not to offer any preferred foods except after the kids eat the non-preferred food, but an OT suggested that using food as a reward only increases its “power.” What’s your experience?

    1. My experience is that we have fewer power struggles about dessert when it’s just part of the expected norm of the day. There’s no negotiation, no pressure to eat foods they dislike, and generally it’s easier for the kids and for me. Hope that helps!
